Premature fan campaign? Is there such a thing?

My fellow geeks will know about Joss Whedon’s new TV show Dollhouse (you gotta be on Facebook to look at this constantly growing group of fans). For those of you who don’t: Joss Whedon, creator of cult show Buffy The Vampire Slayer, spin-off Angel and the sci-fi Western Firefly (the series and the movie) has a new show in the making, about a bunch of hi-tech assassins, starring Eliza Dushku. Right on!

Long, long before this show is even going on air (fans have to wait another 8 months) nerds all over the place are already combining their online forces to amass an army of devotees to watch Dollhouse, in case it should be in danger of being kicked off the air. They must be scared of the Jericho-effect.

I am a giant Buffy and Angel nerd myself (and I am, for reasons not even known to myself, not ashamed to admit that), but I can’t see myself rooting for Dollhouse before I have seen it. However, I think it is great and highly effective that a passionate fanbase is already developing keen to support Dollhouse. Some disagree though, saying they might be fuelling the dreaded boot rather than keep the show on the air. Hm… what do you think?
