Another week, another review, a day early this time… here is what grabbed our attention this week, lovingly put together for your reading pleasure!
Is Reality TV over?
UK’s Channel 4 axes Big Brother after 11 seasons. Though the show has still been commercially viable for the channel, Channel 4 feels it is time to move on. Channel 4 head Julian Bellamy said
that the decision would nonetheless give the network an “exciting” opportunity to re-evaluate its output of quirky programs, one-off dramas and returning series, as well as an increased programming budget to invest in new programming brands.
We think that’s a great idea – new content and drama is what we need!
Sad news for UK TV set Production
This Thursday the last TV set will be made in the Portsmouth TV factory, ending a long tradition of TV set production in the UK. Though we are all for online TV viewing (obviously), we too are sad (especially Iris as a collector of vintage TV sets).
Magma Launch – Billboard for online video
Magma, a new site to rate and discover online video has launched. The founder (who is also the founder of Rocketboom) Andrew Baron says
YouTube was built to make it easy for people to upload their videos. Hulu was made to help publishers feel safe with distributing online. Facebook and Twitter are also very special to the video ecosystem but they were not designed for video. Magma was created for the audience.
Magma helps audiences discover the day’s most popular video trends. We are excited about this new site and very curious to see how it develops.
